This week I was able to develop a better understanding of different eating disorder treatments, due to my research. Treatments I read about include, family-based treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy, REaCH, MANTRA, and many more. Something that I find interesting is that while family based treatments have proven to be very helpful for treating adolescents with eating disorders, after researching anorexia nervosa treatments I have realized that when treating adults, professionals have been unable to find one treatment or form of therapy that is significantly better than the others, and it is harder to prevent relapse and maintain health in the long term. When I start my interviews, I would like to hear from psychotherapists which treatment options they use, and like or dislike and why, because I believe it would differ between patients and I would like to understand why professionals choose certain methods of treatment for different individuals, for example, does ones' family situation or dynamic have an affect, or age/gender? This week I would like to focus my research more on symptoms and signs of eating disorders, and learn more about the different types and diagnosis' people receive, in order to gather a more dense grasp of the subject.
